contributor, local summer chamber music

festival organizer and President of Pro Musica Detroit,

will discuss his recently published book,

The Witness of

Music: The 80-year History of Pro Musica Detroit.

This book explains how Detroit’s leading musicians and

music lovers organized a local chapter of the prestigious,

New York-based concert group, Pro Musica. Detroit had

the only one of 20 such chapters to survive the 1929

stock market crash and thrive for 80 years. Suczek will

discuss how it has thrived and the amazing list of great

composers and brilliant artists the group has been pre-

senting in Detroit ever since.

Second Saturday Pastimes

Come to the Provencal-Weir House, c. 1823, on the

Second Saturday of each month during the Grosse Pointe

Historical Society’s complimentary open-house tours from

1:00–4:00p.m. and enjoy a tour and a fun, brief history

lesson! All ages welcome, children must be accompanied

by an adult.

Feast of St. Clare

Celebrate the anniversary of

the naming of Lake St. Clair. Re-enactors show us how

the voyageurs survived in early Grosse Pointe at a mini-

encampment with Paul Ignagni and friends.
