Life on a Ribbon Farm Camp Summer 2007

An Interactive Historical Program for Children

Children in the area are invited to learn about the old

farm life of 18th century Grosse Pointe this summer as

the Society brings back the popular summer series,

Life on a Ribbon Farm

, for children 7-11 years old.

The program will take place, Monday, July

16–Thursday, July 19, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the

Provencal-Weir house c.1823, 376 Kercheval, in

Grosse Pointe Farms.

The term “ribbon farm” or “strip farm” refers to

Grosse Pointe’s early agricultural properties that

were approximately 300 to 500 feet of lakefront and

extended inland from one to three miles. This proper-

ty usually began at the lake with a farmhouse and

garden, barn with animals, apple, cherry or pear

orchards, wheat and corn fields, and woods.
