Online Exhibits Bring Grosse Pointe History

to Your Computer Screen

Taking a trip back in time can now be done over the Internet, thanks to the Grosse Pointe Historical Society. Three

new online exhibits featuring scores of historic photographs have recently been posted on the Society’s Web site,

www.gphistorical.org, and two more will soon be added. The exhibits were funded by the Wilkinson Foundation.

Just log on to the Web site, click on Slideshows and Exhibits on the right. The new exhibits are:

1911 Flying Exhibition

On June 19, 1911, a select group of Grosse Pointers gathered on the grounds of the Grosse Pointe Golf Club (on what

was the club’s race track and is now the athletic field at Grosse Pointe South High School) to take to the skies in one of

the Wright brothers newfangled flying machines. Industrialist Russell A. Alger was president of the Detroit Aero Club
