A Royal Success

More than 500 history buffs and supporters of the Grosse

Pointe Historical Society turned out for "A Royal

Celebration at Bellmor," the society's summer gala. The

event grossed $75,000 for educational and community

outreach programs celebrating local history. The event,

chaired by Mary Shafer, was held at the 1928 mansion,

Bellmor, designed for John Bell Moran by Robert O.

Derrick and currently owned by Randy and Judy Agley.

The home is on Windmill Pointe in Grosse Pointe Park.

Thanks to all who attended and to our most generous

donors listed below. Pictures of the evening are on the

From the Program Director

We were very fortunate to have several young people

working in the Alfred B and Ruth S. Moran Resource

Center this summer as interns. Victoria Slater, a senior at

Grosse Pointe South, worked on a web exhibit on her

impressions of student life in Grosse Pointe throughout

the years.

Elliott Shafer and Gretchen Valade each did community

service at GPHS this summer for Albion College. Elliott

was a tour guide at the Provencal-Weir House, organized

our map collection and worked at the registration table at

the Bellmor party. Gretchen worked as a student teacher

with me at the Provencal-Weir House with second graders

from Ferry and Kerby schools.

Kerri Marowske did a fantastic job of organizing and cre-

ating catalogs for the Resource Center. She will be a

sophomore at Albion in September and plans to be a

museum curator.
