Grosse Pointe Historical Society

Receives Wayne County Award

The Grosse Pointe Historical Society recently received

the County Commissioners’ Award from the Wayne

County Council for Arts, History and Humanities. The

award recognized the Society for its creativity in pro-

gramming, their new Web site, www.gphistorical.org,

and on-line exhibits, and their newsletter,

the

Moorings

. It was presented at a ceremony on October

4 at the Henry Ford Centennial Library.

Society president Stuart Grigg, of Grosse Pointe,

accepted the award on behalf of its board, staff and

members. Also present were board member Penny

Soby, Joe

Katulic,

docent Nancy

Pacitto and

curator Suzy

Berschback.

The Web site

designer is

Grosse Pointe

city resident,

Jay Hunter.

The Moorings

editor is Farms resident,

Ann Marie Aliotta.

“Last year, we went through a strategic planning

process at the Historical Society and found universal

agreement across our stakeholders that access to our

collections and information is our number one goal.

This award recognizes that we are achieving that goal

and inspires us to do even more,” said Grigg.

GPHS Board President Stuart Grigg

Looking for a great Christmas present that

benefits the Grosse Pointe Historical Society?

Then and Now: Grosse Pointe

is

a wonderful way to learn more

about our history and support

the Society. When you buy a

copy through the Historical

Society or next door at Jerry’s

Club Party Store, all the pro-

ceeds go directly back to the

Society.

Written by Society curator Suzy

Berschback and

Moorings

editor

Ann Marie Aliotta, the book

contains hundreds of historic

and contemporary photos illustrating the changes that

Grosse Pointe has gone through over the years. Most of

the historic photos came from the Society’s archives.
