Pointes of History Celebration
May 10
The public is invited to celebrate the rich architectural
history of Grosse Pointe at this year’s Pointes of History
Celebration on Tuesday, May 10, 7 p.m. at the Grosse Pointe
War Memorial.Three structures will be awarded historical
plaques at this annual event designed to recognize the historic
and architectural integrity of Grosse Pointe’s built environment.
“This celebration is a chance to share the pride we feel with
other homeowners in our historic community,” said Greg Jakub,
chairman of this year’s GPHS historic Plaque Committee.
The Plaque Committee researches structures throughout
the year. The research reveals a profile of the buildings
considered for plaques.
This includes the structures’ origins, occupants over the
years, architectural styles, modifications, renovations and
historical significance.
Historical Society Forms
Now Online!
Requesting historical research through the Grosse Pointe
Historical Society is now just a mouse click away! The GPHS
has put many of its forms on line for the convenience of the
community.
Simply log on to the GPHS website and click on the
“Forms” link on the left. Visitors can request historic research,
get permission to use a photo, rent the Provencal-Weir House,
and, of course, become a member or make a donation – all over
the Internet.
An added feature for members of the GPHS is one hour of
research free.
“We really think having these forms on line will make things
so much easier for our members and for residents of the commu-
nity,” said GPHS President Susan Hartz. “Hopefully more people
will visit our website and see the great things we have to offer.”

This year’s summer fundraiser
is taking place in the fabulous
lakefront home built in 1927 for
Ross W. Judson, former president
of the Continental Motors Corp.,
and aviation pioneer.The home
was designed by noted architect
Wallace Frost in the French manor
home style.
No expense was spared when
the home was built, and current
owners, Dr. and Mrs. David Cotton,
have lovingly restored the manor to
its original grandeur.

passions of the original and current
owners.

is set in a French
village where a lilac farm has been
turned into a British airfield during
World War I.
