In a follow-up to his previous presentation last spring,

Kenneth E. Schramm, author of

Detroit Street Railways

,

will present a slide program relating to the various street-

cars and interurban cars that once formed the vast public

transportation system in metropolitan Detroit with spe-

cial emphasis on those that operated in and around the

Grosse Pointes between the 1890’s and 1950’s.

Nicholas P. Sinacori, a life-

long Grosse Pointer and

President of the Village of

Fairview Historical Society,

will discuss his upcoming

book,

The History of the

Village of Fairview

, to be

published by WSU Press in

2007. The new book will identify and chronicle the lost

history of this village, that was split between the City of

Detroit and Grosse Pointe Park when the Park was estab-

lished in 1907, and explain its rich legacy in the birth

and evolution of the automobile and the legendary names

whose influence were left for posterity.

contributor, local summer chamber music

festival organizer and President of Pro Musica Detroit,

will discuss his recently published book,

The Witness of

Music: The 80-year History of Pro Musica Detroit.

This book explains how Detroit’s leading musicians and

music lovers organized a local chapter of the prestigious,

New York-based concert organization called Pro Musica

and how it is the only one of 20 such chapters to survive

the 1929 stock market crash and thrive for 80 years.

Suczek will also explain why this organization has thrived

and the amazing list of great composers and brilliant

artists they have been presenting in Detroit for over three

quarters of a century.
