A tour of a Vintage Mid-Century Modern Home on Lake Shore Road

Leave the 21st century behind and imagine yourself the master or mistress of this mid-century masterpiece! Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart might be waiting with cocktails on the terrace, with a sweeping view of Lake St. Clair.

From the sinuous suspended staircase, to the timeless turquoise kitchen, this house offers all the hallmarks of Mid-Century Modern style – clean lines, organic curves, varied materials and those iconic colors.

Built in 1953 for the family of auto dealer Stark Hickey, 115 Lake Shore is a significant marker in Grosse Pointe history. It stands on property subdivided from “Drybrook”, the Truman Newberry Estate. That home, listed as one of the “Twelve Best Country Houses in America” was built for the ages – and lasted barely 40 years. The Stark Hickey home has stood for more than 60 years, and the style and design are still perfect for luxurious lake living.

Tours will be guided by GPHS Docents, and will feature insights into Mid-Century Modern architecture and garden restoration, and some special “1950s style” touches!
