Second Saturday Pastimes

On the Second Saturday of each month, during the Grosse Pointe Historical Society's open-house tours you are invited to drop in at 376 Kercheval to the 1823 Provencal-Weir house. Sponsored by the Alice Kales Hartwick Foundation. The activities and the tour are usually free of charge but donations are suggested.

2010 Second Saturday Programs Delight all Senses!

Free tours of the Provencal-Weir House will be offered every Second Saturday between 1 and 4 pm. Please call (313) 884-7010 for more information or to make event reservations.

Be sure to visit La Belle's Country Store. The Grosse Pointe Historical Society's Country Store is located in the Provencal-Weir House at 376 Kercheval in Grosse Pointe Farms. The shop is open Monday through Thursday from 10:00am to 12:30pm & 1:30pm to 4:00pm. The shop is also open by appointment - call 313-884-7010.

Izzy’s Valentine Medley: Pocket Valentines, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Make felt heart pockets with sweet little items inside. Hot chocolate will compliment the program. The event is for children between the ages of 8 and 10 years old. Fee is $10/member and $15/non-member. Please make your reservation by Thursday, February 11th.

Izzy’s Winter Warm Up, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Make fleece pocket scarves to wrap yourself up in this last month of winter. Hot chocolate will compliment the program. The event is for children between the ages of 8 and 10 years old. Fee is $10/member and $15/non-member. Please make your reservation by Thursday, March 11th.

Eco-Tulip Sale, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

GPHS will host a special eco-tulip sale. We will be selling our first "Official Grosse Pointe Tulip," a classically shaped triumph tulip with magenta petals. Why organic tulips? The most important reason is that they are grown with respect for nature and the environment. This means no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers are used which benefits the soil and people.

Izzy’s Birdseed Biscuits, 1p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Make heart-shaped birdseed biscuits to hang in your garden. Refreshments will compliment the program. The event is for children between the ages of 8 and 10 years old. Fee is $10/member and $15/non-member. Please make your reservation by Thursday, April 8th.

Neighborhood Walking Tour, 1 p.m.

The tour, led by Scott Vandemergle, will start at the Provencal-Weir House promptly at 1 p.m. Free for members, $5/non-member. Please call for tour details and to make reservations.

Izzy’s Spring Sugar Cookies, 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Create a bouquet of spring flower-shaped sugar cookies. Refreshments will compliment the program. This event is for children between the ages of 8 and 10 years old. Fee is $10/member and $15/non-member. Make your reservation by Thursday, May 6th.
